No, its not what you think. I’m talking about our radical decision to cut up our credit cards…forever.
A couple years ago we used our credit card for every single purchase we made (we even tried using it in gumball machines). The concept of using cash was laughable. We had this incredible plan to rack up sky miles and take all sorts of extravagant trips to far-away places. After a year of dedication to our plan, we accumulated enough miles to get…wait for it…two $150 plane tickets.
Then I read about this study that was done. It concluded that, on average, people spend 12-18% more when they use credit cards instead of cash (it has something to do with the ease and impulse of using credit). So, naturally, I whipped out the old TI-83 and figured out that, if this were true of us (and I knew it was), we could have bought thirty $150 plane tickets during that same year with “extra” money we spent.
So, it was about 9 seconds later that we had our first and last plastectomy. Life is better now.
*It was just a matter of time before I brought this up.
