Baby Tripp and Tyler

This is one of my favorite videos that Tripp and I have done for Northpoint. The message is simple: There isn’t one person who appreciates you bringing your baby into a church service.

Let’s say, hypothetically, that we were going to make another video of things you shouldn’t do in a church service. You got any ideas?

    Mine has to do with singing too. There is an elder in our church, who I know loves the Lord, but God help him, may have the worst singing voice in all the land. When he sings he sounds like a cross between Brian, the dog from Family Guy, and Jeff Dauler (for any Q100 Bert Show listeners out there. ) And the worst part is, he is not ashamed of it.

    I know I am not the only one who thinks this because there is at least a 20ft radius around him and his wife every Sunday morning. I often wonder if his wife has just grown immune to it or if she secretly despises him every Sunday between the hours of 10-11am. I've spoken with my pastor about having a talk with him since he is an elder and clearly ignoring Biblical truths: Make a JOYFUL noise unto the Lord. Psalm 100:1.

    PSA – Please be sure to end your Sunday School class (OK, I know you guys don't have them… go with me here) with enough time so that everyone can actually make it into worship. If you don't, we're going to lock the doors until the end of the service when we do offering.

    If your phone starts ringing, make it stop. Don't answer, just make it stop, don't let it keep ringing. Better yet, TURN THE PHONE OFF BEFORE SERVICE!

    Oh I totally disagree about babies in church, especially infants. Even before I was a mom, I recognized church as a family-friendly place. No, I don't bring my toddler into church because he doesn't understand what's going on, but I wouldn't (and didn't) put a 3 mo old in the nursery. Our pastors have always made announcements about how they LOVE having babies in the service.

    Guilty. We took Sam (and will take Baby #2) into the service with us for at least the first few months. He would fall asleep during the sermon – while sitting in his carseat – and stay asleep the whole time. The second time he woke up and was noisy (not even crying), we started taking him to the nursery. Otherwise, what's the harm?

    I'd much rather steer clear of the germ fest that is the nursery for the first few months.

    Wow. Things got a little heavy around here whilst I was on vacation. Ahem. In true SCL fashion I have to say I hate the husband who puts his arm around his wife and rubs her back the whole time. Gross and you're distractin' me. It's even worse if she puts her head on his shoulder. Can these two concentrate? I submit no.

    i second mary and leigh. turn off the phone, don't answer it. and too much PDA during service is no good. haha

    this is more for teens, but it's distracting when there are kids who are playing with their DS or itouch/iphone or other gaming device during service. or teens who text during service.

      It is annoying when "teens" do it. Less annoying when 28-year-old Tylers do it (in my opinion). Please don't judge…

    Deacons 101: hold the Communion grape juice tray carefully. I'm not a big fan of leaving with Welch's on my jeans.
