Cliche Thursday
February 11th, 2010 - Uncategorized - 5 Comments »For the past month or so, Bryan Allain has spent Thursdays on his blog deconstructing some of the most overused and illogical cliches in existence. Fortunately for us, he’s agreed to target a few more today on my blog. I couldn’t just let him get all the attention though, so I convinced him to let me guest post some of my own cliche qualms on his blog today as well.
On with it. Here’s Bryan:
“Rome wasn’t built in a day”
Yeah, no crap. Nobody ever said it was. You can’t build anything in a day. It takes me 3 days to put together a lego police boat for my son, you think I’m under the impression that an entire city was built in 24 hours?
“That guy is worth his salt”
I need some clarification. Is he worth his weight in salt? Because 200 pounds of salt will cost you $790 if you buy Kosher Sea Salt at Amazon. Or is he just worth the amount of salt in his body, which at only 7 tablespoons will set you back a few bucks. I guess either way, the fact that you can buy the guy for less than a grand is insulting.
“Busier than a one-armed paper hanger”
Okay, seriously. This guy needs a career counselor and a Monster.com account, like yesterday.
“When in Rome do as the Romans do”
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why I’ll never go to Italy. I’ve got no desire to grow a mustache and feed Christians to lions in a large Coliseum while wearing a toga, eating pizza, and counting using V’s and X’s.
“I need to get this off my chest”
Your right buddy, you do need to get it off your chest. You should have just told me your secret instead of writing it all over your man-boobs in magic marker. Good luck scrubbing that off without rubbing your nipples raw.
What other cliches need to die (or at least be beaten with a nine-iron)?
For more from Bryan, check out his blog here, or better yet, pony up a few dollars and buy his 2009 Blog Yearbook. Seriously. It’s really good.
