Reader Feedback
April 15th, 2010 - Uncategorized - 4 Comments »I was surprised how insightful last week’s Reader Survey was to me. I learned that the majority of you read this blog in an RSS reader. I learned that 5 Questions You’ve Never Been Asked is your least favorite series. I learned that most of you found out about my site through another blog. I learned that most of you check it daily. And I learned about a ton of funny stuff that I never knew about before (more on that at the end of the post).
The most insightful answers to me, though, were to the question “What is the one main thing I could do to improve this site?” Out of 87 responses, eight things seemed to be coming up over and over again. Here are your responses.
1. Comment on people’s comments more to know you’re listening. I am terrible at this. But I really want to get better. I’ve heard someone say that not responding to peoples’ comments is like not showing up to a party that you’re hosting. I’ll try harder.
2. More self-made videos. Done. I really want to incorporate more of those into the blog, but I don’t really know what would be worth your time. Any suggestions?
3. Your “next entries” and “previous entries” links at the bottom need some CSS love. Wow. I didn’t know any of you scrolled down that far. My site is still a little quirky. We’re working, slowly but surely, to fix a lot of that kind of stuff. But this brings up a good point – if you see anything that isn’t working right, don’t hesitate to let me know. Chances are, I just haven’t noticed.
4. More posts about your life. Come on man, let us know the real Tyler. This is the real me. I really am this shallow in real life.
5. Tweet your locations once in a while. Really? People do this? OK, I’ll give it a shot. If you’re a murderer, please let me know in advance.
6. More anecdotes. I have no idea what anecdotes are. Are they kind of like antidotes?
7. It would be cool to have some random contests (something with video, best response to a question, or something better you think of) for your readers. Hmm. This is a really good idea. I’ve just been skeptical that people would participate. Would you? Any great contest ideas? I’ll be thinking.
8. I wouldn’t mind getting more tweets. I’m trying to be careful with this. I’d much rather be the guy who you wish would tweet more than the guy you desperately wish would tweet less. This is a fine line.
All next week I will be at Catalyst, so each day I’m going to post part of my 2010 Almanac of Humor (your answers to funniest TV show, book, movie, website, comedian, etc). The main reason I’m doing this is because I want you to be exposed to a whole new realm of funny stuff that you didn’t even know existed. Think of it as a glorified Weekly Six. It’s going to make us better people.

Help! This has nothing to do with this post, but every time I go on your blog page that *&%# swedish video starts playing! How to you turn this thing off!!!
while you are certainly this shallow, they still don’t know the real tyler. if you really wanted to let them in, you’d post a picture of your lazy eye. that’s what the people want to see my friend.
Did you know that McDonalds puts countless hours into researching where they should put their stores while burger king saves their money by simply setting up stores wherever McDonalds does? Well that's what I'm going to do with your survey results. Thanks for doing that.
Tripp's comment is awesome, and contests? of course I would participate.
