More Guilty Pleasures

June 16th, 2010 - Uncategorized - 13 Comments »

There are certain posts on my blog that undoubtedly leave readers thinking less of me. This is one of those posts. I’ve written about some of my guilty pleasures before, but after some serious introspection, I realized there are more of these than I thought. So, here are some more things I’m embarrassed to love.

The Bachelorette
Thank you Allains. That episode of The Bachelorette you imposed on us as innocent guests in your home has led to a new two-hour commitment every Monday night. Did I mention I love that commitment?*

P90X Commercials
If I’m flipping through the channels and come across one of these gems, I’m there for the next 30 minutes. I don’t know what it is about Tony Horton, but I feel like I get a good workout in by merely watching it. I’m always really inspired afterwards to dive right in, but then an infomercial comes on for the Shoe-dini, which needs my immediate attention.

Show Tunes
I have an entire playlist devoted to my favorite songs from musicals.** Sometimes (and by “sometimes” I mean “frequently”), when I’m in the car by myself, I like to blow my speakers out pretending to be Jean Valjean.

Glee
One of the cheesiest and outlandish shows in television history? Yes. One of the best and most original experiences in television history? Also, yes.

Checking Blog Stats
My friend Kevin has dubbed blog statistics as “the line graph of emotions”. Any stat-checking blogger knows this to be true. Lots of views? You spend your day whistling. Embarrassingly low views? You spend your day in a depressed funk, wondering if something is wrong with the Google Analytics’ server. It’s great fun.

What about you? Anything you need to come clean about? Remember, this is a safe place. No one will see.

*I need to address two things to my fellow Bachelorette watchers: 1) The singing/tattoo guy has made the show 35x more entertaining, and 2) Who is that one guy? How is he still around? He’s gotten 0.87 seconds of air time.

*Playlist includes: One Day More (Les Miserables), No Day But Today (Rent), I Dreamed a Dream (Les Miserables – Glee version), Seasons of Love (Rent), and the entire Mamma Mia soundtrack, to name a few.

on the bachelorette (spoiler alert!!!!!) i was so happy that Kasey got a rose. I couldn't handle losing ClosedMouthTalker and The Weatherman in the same episode.

Speaking of which, can we please order a new reality show called The Weatherman where we just watch him live his daily life. I could NOT get enough of the Weatherman.

As for Chris N, the mysterious bachelor she keeps giving roses too despite ZERO camera time. Like I told Erica last night, I'm pretty sure he signed something after the show was over that forced ABC to cut out every shot he was in except for at the rose ceremonies. Seriously, I think he's already married to 3 women, but ABC didnt find out until later on so now they're trying to cover themselves. it's the only possible explanation.

Back to the Weatherman, I think this should be a new nickname for a friend who has no game and cant muster up the courage to ask a girl out or make a move on her. "C'mon dude, dont be such a weatherman!"

Dude, you need to throw some Wicked into your playlist. You will not be disappointed.

I, too, love musicals and Glee.

I think I've got Bob hooked on the Bachelorette too.
    Kasey made us squirm….twice.
And that guy you never see? I would love to know if there was ANY shot of him, during that episode, before the rose ceremony.
Last week, I just referred to him as the guy in all black. And he looks like Trista's Ryan.

For me, I think I am obligated to include Tosh.0.

It's not that I feel I won't get to go to heaven because of it, but I'm definitely going to be eating ramen noodles and listening to John Mayer up there.

I think the reason I like him is because I know, deep down in my wrist, that he just wants to guard and protect my heart.

When Susan and I went to NYC we watched Rent and it was amazing. I can still listen to the soundtrack all day without shame.

Real Housewives of New Jersey. There, I said it.

I have practically every song from Glee (including 2 by "Acafellas" that i found somwhere…) and tend to sing them at the top of my lungs. I imagine i am a new character… assistant principal that the kids admire, but isn't as weird as Emma. But i sing every song like it is my own.

also, i watch The Hills and The City online. Amazing.

His singing made me sad, but it was better than hearing him say "I'm just hear to guard and protect your heart."

    Tyler,
Came to your blog through Donald Miller's!
You really should go check out this awesome clip of Neil Patrick Harris and Jason Segel singing the "Confrontation" from Les Miserables. Hope you enjoy if you haven't seen it before! I LOVED it because Doogie Howser MD was one of my fav's growing up and it's just genius.

asked the very same question about the mystery bachelor to my wife the other night. Figure if I have to sit and watch it with her, I might as well at least point out stuff like that. I like bryan's theory.
