My 10 Favorite Catalyst Moments (2010)
October 11th, 2010 - Uncategorized - 12 Comments »1. Meeting Sean Algaier from The Biggest Loser. Out of all the people I got to meet, Sean might have been the biggest deal to me. My wife and I have invested many hours and tears into that show, so meeting one of our favorite contestants was surreal. Oh yeah, and I had a bowl cut for the entire event.
2. Sitting next to Seth Godin when our Bowlin’ video premiered. I kept trying to sneak glances out of the corner of my eye to see what he thought of it, but according to my fairly accurate peripheral vision, he didn’t even smile. Oh well. In case you missed it yesterday, here it is:
3. Rappelling 100 feet from the Gwinnett Arena rafters onto the stage. I had serious anxiety for the past two months about this. Ever since Brad held a gun to my head and told me there was a 100% chance this was happening, I haven’t been able to achieve REM sleep. Thankfully, it’s over and I’m alive.
4. Meeting Scott Harrison. Scott is the one who founded charity: water, the organization we raised money for last month. Interestingly, he talked about how good design is one of the central values in their organization, which is one of the main things that kept me on the site for so long in the first place. I love that.
5. Dude getting shot out of a canon. In my opinion, this was a bigger moment than Professor Splash from last year. He had to go over two beams and under a third to avoid death. Incredible. You know what? Just watch the video:
6. 30 people getting bowl cuts at our bowl cut station. During dinner on Thursday night, we set up a bowl cut station for people to come join the cult. To our surprise, there was never a moment when the chair was empty. There was even a woman who got one. The revolution has begun!
7. We Aren’t the World. Just kidding. That bombed.
8. Meeting Twitter/Blog people. Over the past couple of years, a community has formed here on the blog. I interact with you on Twitter and in the comments (or on Nike+), but all I really know of you is your name and avatar. It’s pretty cool being able to actually shake hands with you and have a conversation. This needs to happen more.
9. The marriage proposal at the Pre-Show event. I’m a sucker for a good marriage proposal. During the pre-show event we brought a girl up on stage to be a contestant in a Minute-to-Win It game. Little did she know her boyfriend was about to propose in front of a few thousand people. There wasn’t a dry eye on my face.
10. The Allains staying with us. Loved it. We wish they lived here, but we’re not getting our hopes up. They’re too Amish.
