The Dad Decathalon – DadLife.net

Today is the first day of my Guest Posting Month (GPM). Each day, in addition to the guest post, I’ll be posting here too – an intro to the guest post, a list of arbitrary thoughts, the Weekly Six…really whatever I have time to muster up that day.

In addition to my overarching goal of getting billions of new daily readers, another one of my hopes in doing this is that you’d become exposed to other blogs that you currently don’t know about. Snoop around for a while. Leave comments. Subscribe, for the love.

For today’s post, I teamed up with Bryan Allain to write a post called The Dad Decathalon for dadlife.net. We basically created an event that would give dads an opportunity to display their true skills as a father, using criteria the two of us deemed most important.

A couple examples:

Event #4: TV Justification
Dad has two minutes to clearly explain the mental justification process he has just gone through in allowing his kid to watch a 4th consecutive hour of television.  Bonus points will be awarded for usage of buzzwords like “motor skills”, “social aptitude”, and “emotional fortitude”.

Event #8: Stealthily Eat Candy
While driving, Dad must quietly and unassumingly open and eat an entire sleeve of Starburst without his kids noticing. Dad is allowed to use everything in the vehicle to distract including the car horn, radio, emergency brake, windshield washer fluid, and emergency brake. If one of his kids asks for a piece, says “what smells like fruit?”, or asks “Dad what are you eating?”, he is disqualified.

Head over to dadlife.net to read the rest of the post.

If you’re a dad (or have a dad), leave a comment and let us know if you have more event ideas.

Tomorrow I’ll be posting over at Carlos Whittaker’s blog.

Tyler, why are you trying to steal the spotlight from Black History Month?

This was most excellent. My wife is pregnant with twins and they are our first. I'm looking forward to trying all of this.

If you spend over 30 minutes getting kids bundled up to play in the snow, is it inappropriate to make the stay outside in the cold for 30 minutes? I ask because I've just locked my kids outside in the snow and refuse to let them back in the warm house.
