Valentine’s Day Fails

Today’s guest post is over at Tyler Tarver’s house. Tyler is a high school math teacher by day and a ridiculously funny blogger by…day (my guess is that he gives his students a lot of busy work so he can work on his true craft). Seriously – spend some time on his site. You’ll be a fan.

In the post, I list out what I believe are some of the worst Valentine’s Day gifts a man can give to a woman. Things like:

A playlist
There was something so raw and romantic about a mixed tape or CD – the manual labor involved, the title you chose, the blank tape/CD brand choice. Dragging some songs over to the iTunes sidebar and syncing up her iPod when she isn’t looking doesn’t really have the same effect.

Hand-me-down electronic
Getting her an iPhone 3GS = awesome. Giving her your old iPhone 3GS as a gift because you just upgraded to the vastly superior iPhone 4 = not awesome.

Nothing
Apparently, in the context of Valentine’s Day, “nothing” doesn’t mean “nothing”. It means “At the very least, something small and thoughtful. But for the love of Peter, not nothing. Nothing would be the single worst thing you could do.”

There are a bunch more on the list. Sadly, I’ve actually given three of them in my four years of marriage.

Head on over to Tyler’s blog to read the rest. And in the comments section, let us know two things:

Which ones do you think I’ve given?

What should be added to the list?
