TV March Madness

February 23rd, 2011 - Uncategorized - 17 Comments »

Today’s guest post is over at Scott Moore’s blog. It is an introduction to one of the most important things I’ve ever been a part of – a tournament to discover the greatest comedy television character in the last 20 years. Seven other bloggers (Allain, Keigley, Tarver, Robbins, Green, Moore, McCoy) and I have organized a tournament for the first two weeks of March. Here’s the kicker:

Your participation is KEY. Your votes will decide the advancers, the losers, and ultimately, the single greatest character to grace television in the last 20 years.

I couldn’t be more happy with my draft picks – David Brent, Larry David, Andy Bernard and Peter Griffin. I can’t imagine a world where one of these characters is not the winner. It’s not a world I’d want to be a part of anyway.

Head on over to Scott’s blog to read more about the tournament and to see who everyone else ended up with.

We’ll all be reminding you on a daily basis to head over there and vote – so much so that you’ll probably hate us by the end of it. And by hate I mean love.

Who didn’t get drafted that you think should have?

    Dr. Perry Cox from Scrubs.

  • http://www.kevinkeigley.com Kevin Keigley

    Let's do this Stanton.

I loved your pics until I saw the brackets. I'm nervous about George Costanza in 1. Tobias Funke in 2. And they're going up against your arguable top 2 contenders….we'll see.

what about cliff huxtable? is he not within the past 20 years? this seriously concerns me- he is easily the greatest tv dad of all time.

what about uncle jesse? i know he was on in the 90's
how about cousin cody from step by step? doesn't he deserve honorable mention?
kevin james' character on king of queens…i think he should be on the list as well…

at any rate- this is going to be fun- great idea fellas.

I just want to say that Ari Gold not getting drafted was a travesty. He didn't crack my top 4 but he should have cracked someones.

    • Tyler Stanton

i agree.but entourage is one of those shows that is listed as a comedy, and i always wonder why. i'm not sure what it should be classified as, but comedy?

      • Knox

Just classify it as thirty minutes of shameless cameo appearances. Mark Cuban was the straw that broke my back on that one. I want him focusing more on a college football playoff and less on acting.

  • Tyler Stanton

    whoops.

  • Elizabeth R.

OK, I was gonna say that you guys completely ignored Sci-Fi (Fox Mulder!), Drama, etc. etc.

  • evdaddy

Tyler, I'm a little disappointed with your picks. I really wanted you to win this thing, but I'm not hopeful. Pulling for you will be like pulling for Gonzaga – pretty good team year-in and year-out, but not sure they can play with the big boys.

Bryan is the Duke of this tournament.

With that being said, I like your pick of the Nard Dog.

    • Tyler Stanton

Dude-The nard dog is the weakest of my picks! And he's amazing.Watch British Office and Curb immediately.__________tyler stantonSent from my new Palm Pilot.

      • evdaddy

First, congrats on the new Palm Pilot. I still don't think there is a market for handheld devices.

Dude, I appreciate the British Office and Larry David, but this is a popularity contest, and people just don't know those guys very well. You are expecting a lot from your adoring public to be as into comedic television as you are.

With that being said, I submit Dexter as an option. He's hilarious.

        • nate

evdaddy is right. those guys are great- but they can't stand up to cliff huxtable, doug heffernan, or jerry seinfeld

  • http://www.tylertarver.com Tyler Tarver

If Bryan is Duke and you're Gonzaga, I call dibbs on Auburn.

I love NCAA 2010 football analogies.

  • Jimbo

Tyler you are better than this! Ari Gold has got to be in the top 32! The guy is legendary

You forgot Abed from "Community." Tsk, tsk.

  • jrstivers

Ron Swanson made it from "Parks And Rec" but what about Leslie Knope? Did Michael Scott or Jim Halpert make it?
