Arbitrary Thoughts

+ My brother is graduating from Harvard today. Did that sound like bragging? Good. It was. My family is up here in Boston for the next few days. It’s my first time here – anything we should check out?

+ Just found out we’re having another boy!

+ Bryan Allain’s BlogRocket Booster Course went live this week. I know I’ve told you about it before, but if you have a blog, you really need to check this out – for you and for your readers. I’ve read through the entire thing and it is packed with incredible advice and strategies for how to make your blog better and, ultimately, grow your readership while doing it.

+ 103 captions on the last post? Wow. Lots of really funny ones. Winner will be announced soon.

+ Fascinating: How Legos are Made.

+ If you’re looking for a magazine that says the exact same thing every single month, look no further than Men’s Health. It’s awful. No human should care that much about attaining and caring for abdominals.

+ The Bachelorette has returned! If you’re part of this elite cult (like I am), you might be interested in these two reads: 1) Life Lessons from The Bachelorette by Bryan Allain and I, and 2) Knox McCoy’s weekly Bachelorette Recap – thorough, but in the best way possible.

+ Have you noticed? Tripp is blogging again. And it’s been really good lately. Especially this one.

+ Last night we got to eat at my favorite restaurant on the planet – Wagamama. I ate at that place a couple times a week when I studied abroad in London – #40, Yaki Soba. This leads to today’s question:

What is your favorite restaurant in the world?

  • Ben

    Hey, one fun thing to do while in Boston is take a tour of Fenway Park. Even for those who are not die-hard baseball fans (like my wife was when we took the tour), it is still a very enjoyable time. It gives a good peek at New England culture.

    Favorite restaurant in the world…Nando's (also in London): http://www.nandos.com/

    Chipotle. I know it's not fancy but if I have my pick I'm eating there every day.

    pizza king in zionsville, indiana. i'm pretty sure in reality it's quite revolting but the nostalgia around it pretty adequately maintains my blind spot to that fact.

    • Russ Ray

      I have not been to that one for a while, but the one in Avon and several of the ones in Lafayette are famous for bringing drinks to you via… LOCOMOTIVE.

      Okay, well that sounds a lot less impressive than I thought.

    There is/was an interesting panhandler who always hungout at the Harvard Sq T Stop and would repeat "maam, sir..sir…maam. maamsir….sirmaam….maam…" as the people passed. I thought she was hilarious. Also check out the ten pin bowling or whatever they call it.

    You should go to Cheers. Even if you're not a fan of the show, it's a good place to eat.

    Oh, and my favorite restaurant is of course, Chick-Fil-A.

  • Rick

    Things are looking up at Tripp's blog. Thoughtful, funny, good stuff. I like the changes. For favorite restaurant in the world: Las Cautros Milpas in San Diego. Ghetto-Mex taco shop with bars on the windows and a line out the door every day. Great tacos and the chorizo con huevo with fresh, fully lardified flour tortillas is out of this world. You could ask the favorite restaurant question over and over and I'd have a different answer every time. Right now, I'm hungry for tacos.

  • Russ Ray

    Favorite restaurant worldwide (which counts because it is international): Fogo de Chao.

    Brazilian steakhouses are the greatest food invention ever, next to spray cheese in a can.

    While in Boston make sure you check out Harvard. I mean…I've never actually been to Boston or seen Harvard…but I hear its really cool.

    You're welcome.

    Congrats on the news of a boy. Does that make 3? I think you should go for a whole baseball team. So the favorite restaurant question is a little hard to answer. I love cooking and I love food so much I can't narrow it down to just one. I'm going to break the rules and name a several.

    Mexican= Cinco (Suwanee,GA)
    BBQ Pork Plate= Chicken Comer (Columbus,GA
    Vietnamese= Saigon Cafe (Duluth, GA)
    Most Expensive "One Shot Deal"= Atlas Club Nautika (Dubrovnik, Croatia)
    Bosnian= Villa Rustica (Capljina, Bosnia and Herzegovina)
    Italian= Red Bar (Grayton Beach, FL)
    Pizza= Mellow Mushroom (Georgia)
    Burger= Irma's (OKC, Oklahoma)

    This tiny little place tucked away in an ancient Italian village tucked away in the hills above Santa Maria. It's right by a hilarious man who calls himself "Memo the Beautiful." There is one table plunked down in the middle of an antiques shop, and everything from the appetizers to the after dinner liqueurs are handmade. Amazing. :-)

    you know, when Deaton and I were in Boston we ate at that Wagamama in Cambridge and he had the same reaction and memories from y'alls time abroad in London. I caution you -eating there too much will turn your hair yellow apparently.

    Places in Boston – go to the bar that Cheers is based on, the Bull and Finch. And Fenway.

    Another place to visit in The Hub — at least for food — is Al Dente. It is my wife's absolute FAVORITE restaurant. It's in the North End on Salem St. She loves this place so much that, before we moved here, she actually kept their business cards in her purse and gave them out to anyone and everyone who visited Boston.

    Head to Quincy Market in downtown and just go for a stroll. Interesting area and interesting people.
    If you have a little more time and can get out of the city proper, drive about 30 minutes north to Salem, MA. Site of the infamous witch trials. Very strange little town. Also… interesting note… a lot of the streets in downtown Boston are not in a grid. They just wind around… they are old cow trails and footpaths from the days of ole'… converted into streets later.

    i would've bet money that the Lego factory was made out of Legos.

    Hands down, Oinkers in Clayton, GA is my favorite restaurant on the planet. Great atmosphere, and the best pulled pork I've ever had.

    But most restaurants in Decatur (Brick Store Pub, Taqueria do Sol, etc.) are pretty good too.

    Mr. Bartley's Gourmet Burgers across the street from the school. Order a "People's Republic of Cambridge" burger and wash it down with a fresh lime rickey or "Godzilla" sized coke

    Tyler! They have a Wagamama in the states?? I didn't know this. That place is awesome. I was sad to leave London and know there wasn't one here. Where is it?

  • Teecy

    Favorite restaurant: Sababa's Pita Bar in Taipei, Taiwan. Worth the long flight.
