Arbitrary Thoughts & Fantasy Football

August 18th, 2011 - Arbitrary Thoughts - 18 Comments »

+ Remember the Bryan vs. Tyler fantasy football challenge last year? Yeah, we’re doing that again. Except this year we’re adding two more teams – Team Knox McCoy and Team Tyler Tarver. 10 man teams, picking against the spread each week. I already have a few people on my team…

But I need some more. If you’re interested, let me know in the comments why you should be one of those five.

+ I’ve said it before, but you really need to be on Rdio. Buying music now is laughable. Come on, at least try it out for their free trial.

+ Ben Crane tweeting about our Bowlin’ video = I have a new favorite golfer named Ben Crane

+ Not sure if you’ve seen it yet, but Tripp and I posted our Peachtree Road Race video over at our running site, reluctantrunners.com.

+ I recently sold my new iPad 2 to help me afford this new MacBook Air. Honestly, I haven’t been missing it that much. Don’t get me wrong, I did love it and I will have one in the future. But for now, the Air is filling that void quite nicely.

+ Thanks for all the password manager suggestions on Twitter. I’m went with LastPass and am already loving it.

So again, I need some more people for my fantasy team. Not just casual participants, but people who want to humiliate and destroy Teams Allain, McCoy, and Tarver. If that’s you, let me know the following info in the comments:

1. Your Name

2. Why I should recruit you onto my team (be as ridiculous as you’d like with as many Allain/McCoy/Tarver low-blows as you’d like)

We’ll let you know teams early next week.

  • Joel

Joel Purser – I was on Bryan's team last season and I'm pretty sure I got 3rd place overall or something close. That should be reason enough in itself. While Bryan updates his blog more frequently, you make up for the occasional scarcity with overall hilarity and I'd rather not be associated with someone who's greatest attribute is consistency.

this cuts deep, Joel. real deep.

Why Should I Be On Your Team?
    1) I've gotten 2nd in my 12-man fantasy football league in back-to-back seasons. I even accomplished this last year riding Jon Kitna the last few games of the our playoffs.
    2) I believe that Ben Roethlisberger's success as a quarterback is in direct proportion to the fatness of his face and will pick as such.
    3) The same goes for Aaron Rogers and the ugliness of his grille.
    4) I honestly don't know anything about the other guys you mentioned above, which means my dedication lies solely to you.
    5) The Eagles will under perform.
    6) I will never pick the Raiders.
    7) I have once left church to go set my fantasy rosters because one of my key players was a game-time decision.
    8) I also read Reluctant Runners.
    9) I'm not afraid to make personal attacks on fantasy opponents. Willing to make 3 a.m. phone calls to whomever to gain a competitive advantage.
    10) Once stole a golf cart.
    11) I hate Coldplay, U2, The Beatles and Elvis
    12) I can guarantee a championship for Team Stanton.

  • Jake

Jake Manne – Your blog delivers the trivial knowledge you promise, while Bryan's seems to be lacking the Amish awesomeness it promises. I like to be a part of a team that delivers what it promises.

    • Joel

I agree, where were the amish festival pics this year?

  • http://timdreyfus.wordpress.com Tim Dreyfus

    1. Tim
    2. I just want to play with a bunch of people I’ve never met and crush the Allain/McCoy/Tarver combo, whom I’ve never met. Isn’t that ridiculous enough?

  • Chad McCallum

Tyler…let me on your Fantasy Football team…why? I actually spent my own money on your book and read it! Chad

  • Jody Ferrell

    1. Jody
    2. Because Allain is a Northerner and a Red Sox fan. He must go down.

    • http://bryanallain.com bryan a

Way to bring back that civil war era mentality, Ferrell. I bet you use the confederate flag for a blanket at night, don't you?

  • Shaun

    1. Shaun

    2. I am an avid reader of your blog….. I love the videos that you and Tripp create, I try to show most of them to our kids at church……….The "Bowlin" video is my 9 yr old sons favorite web video………. I won my 12 team fantasy league last year as a rookie………. I live in Nashville, which is right in the heart of football country………I am a huge sports fan………… You are obviously so much cooler than they are………and why is Allain in this competition? shouldnt he be in a fantasy butter churning league or something?……..Tarver isnt even worthy of having the same first name as you……..and I love Jesus…… so you would be missing out if you dont pick me.

    • http://bryanallain.com bryan a

Allain is in this competition because he knows more about picking football games than you know about playing the Jesus card to get into an NFL picks league.

  • http://tymn.wordpress.com Tymn

    1. Tim

    2. Because I still haven't really figured out the whole "spread" thing (mostly because I stopped caring when I found out it wasn't a table filled with delicious treats), so I won't spend a lot of time over-analyzing my picks. Just making lucky picks seems to work well for my wife every March when she apathetically destroys me in our March Madness brackets, so I'm guessing it will work just as well for my football picks.

  • Josh schneider

    Name: Josh S

    Reasons:
    1. I was on your team last year and didn’t suck
    2. I thought about joining one of the other person’s teams and consider it my almost biggest mistake of 2011
    3. I have repented many times for the reason above
4 I have the ability to whisper to penguins
    5. Jesus would want you to

    4. I have an ability to talk to penguins
    5. Jesus would want you to

  • http://robshep.com rob shepherd

My goal is to be on all four of your teams. Sign me up. Wait is that not how this works?

  • sweetannieskitchens

    Speaking of fantasy football…
Please tell me you have seen The League. Another one of those shows you hate to admit that you love. :) I have no reasons to give you to pick me for your team except for the fact that after watching this show, I am obsessed with finding a group to join this year. It looks like so much fun!

  • Darin Campbell

Why rdio over spotify? Can you elaborate?

    • Tyler Stanton

I should definitely write a post about why, but in short, I like the interface and social aspect of Rdio MUCH better.

  • Jon Cook

    Jon Cook

I was on your team last year. Gotta say something for loyalty…and for not being crappy at making picks.
