New addition to the family.
___

Anyone else keep a month’s worth of to-do lists on one page?
___

I was hoping I’d live to see this moment. Anyone want to trade me a Macaulay Culkin for a Debbie Rowe? I’ve got doubles.
___

I just noticed that I’m flexing my calf for some reason. There is no explanation.
___

Our friend TJ got a bowl cut in front of 1500 peers. The very definition of heroic.
___

Too much gold here.
___

Two-stroke victory. More details to come…including Tripp’s ludicrous penalty.

Look what came in the mail yesterday. Of all the books with a cartoon unicorn on the cover, this definitely cracks the top 10.

Who wants my extra copy? Let us know your favorite Nintendo game in the comments and I’ll pick a random winner.

    i've got my copy.

it's really unfortunate that place won't sale beer or tobbacco anymore because i'm pretty sure those two things make me a better christian.

No joke: when slightly intoxicated, I have a tendency to start sharing the Gospel with everyone around me. I don't know how I feel about this.

      • http://thegboat.net/ The Joseph Craven

I also don't know why I admitted this.

because confession gets you into heaven. or something like that.

Is there any question? Mario Kart. Best. Nintendo, Game. Ever.

  • http://www.logankstewart.blogspot.com logankstewart

Best Nintendo game ever? And somewhat vague. Allow me to nerd out for a moment.

    NES: Super Mario Bros 3
SNES: Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
N64: Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Gamecube: Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
    Wii: Super Mario Galaxy
    Gameboy: Tetris or Pokemon…

Of all of those, I'd definitely pick Ocarina of Time. Now if I could only get my hands on a 3DS and try the remake.

    • http://justsayray.wordpress.com/ Russ Ray

      What, no Virtual Boy pick?

  • rodneybooe

Absolutely has to be Mari Kart.

  • http://www.adambuzard.com …adam

The best nintendo games were Battle Toads and Blades of Steel.

And thanks to game genie I finally got to the 5th level of battle toads.

Mario 3 or Die Hard. Die Hard is a great game! By the way did you take the picture of the no sale of beer? The reflection looks like the person is flexing their calf as well.

Bad Dudes. Easily. It had everything you need: a stellar plot, life-changing music, a character that appears to be named "Staiker", and of course, 8-bit screams of how "bad" they are.

Greatest moment of my time in college was finally beating this game. I was sweaty and shaking while fighting the final boss, and after realizing I had won, I promptly threw my hands in the hair and screamed "Oh man, I am SO BAD RIGHT NOW"

  • joe and miriam

On NES..it has got to be Tecmo Super Bowl or Contra playing 2 players

  • http://www.jessiwhitt.wordpress.com Jessi

Sonic the Hedgehog! I was so addicted to getting all the extra lives that if I had 9 lives and still missed one on a level, then I'd have to start all over. Can you say OCD!

  • yousaidso

um… doi. Duckhunt. you had a gun. and i knew that if i put it right next to the screen, they would die extra hard. i was like annie oakley.

  • http://abluesicanwhistle.blogspot.com Tim

Oh man, I list too many things on the same piece of paper. I don't think I make it a month, but it's definitely a few weeks worth on a single notepad.

A favorite is definitely tough to pick. I will say the game I've played the most post teenage years has definitely been Mario Kart.

Congrats on winning at putt-putt. Somehow, in the back of my mind I never doubted that you'd pull it off.

As far as Nintendo games, go, I agree with logankstewart that we need some sort of clarification on system and genre. Since he handled systems pretty nicely, I'll take a crack at genre…

    Platformer – Mario 64
Action – Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (honorable mention to Goldeneye and Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire)
    Racing – Super Mario Kart
RPG – Kingdom Hearts (honorable mention to Super Mario RPG)
Puzzle – Tetris (though Dr. Mario was highly underrated)

But I suspect you want one all-time, can't miss Nintendo game… For me, that game is Super Mario World, the first game released on the SNES. It is possibly the one game ever that I have not only beaten, but found every secret, every hidden item, every alternate exit, etc.

Tecmo Super Bowl. What other game allows you to make a 5 yard diving tackle EVERY time?

  • darenneely

i heard certain pages of Tyler Tarver's book are "scratch and sniff." But I also heard we've landed on the moon, so who knows what we're to believe these days. One more thing, where does Tyler sale his book?

  • Howard

I would have to say Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

  • http://overdivulgent.blogspot.com Lauren

RAMPAGE! On original NES. Where you were Godzilla or King Kong and climbed buildings and ate people and destroyed cities? So great. Or Mario2.

Until Ocarina of Time came out for N64. That was the GameChanger.

  • Rick

I met with a guy this week that had a sweet cover for his 11" Macbook Air: http://store.apple.com/us/product/H5106ZM/A If I had an Air, I would totally want a BookBook, yet never buy it because I'm too cheap.

Speaking of cheap, my favorite Nintendo game is the one that comes with the console because I almost never buy another game.

  • akirkley

Either Mario Cart or Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I liked Zelda just because I got to ride a horse. I was nuts about horses when I was little.

  • http://www.jasonbunch.net Jason

Favorite Nintendo game was/is Super Mario Bros. 3
    Super NES – Mario Kart
    Nintendo 64 – Goldeneye
Wii – Super Mario Bros. Wii and Mario Kart Wii

Basically any and all Mario Bros. games.

  • http://www.jasonbunch.net Jason

I would also say that some close seconds for Nintendo were Donkey Kong 64, the original Track and Field, Duckhunt, Chronotrigger, Zelda, and many, many more.

  • Luke

    Tecmo Super Bowl for sure

  • http://abbynickle.wordpress.com/ abby nicole

Without question, Mario Kart. I just sold my 64 on Craigslist and the decision haunts my dreams. And the Wii version is totally lame. Either that or I just suck at it. I guess it will just be one of life's great mysteries.

  • http://justsayray.wordpress.com/ Russ Ray

I'm just going to go old-school here, because I'm not sure I've played enough Wii or DS games to say that I know either. And these are my favorites… not necessarily the best.

NES: Tecmo Super Bowl… so much better than Madden back then
SNES: Sim City… didn't have a PC, so I wore this one out. I also liked Clue and Monopoly, for when you couldn't just break out the box and play it with real people
    Gameboy: Tetris and Dr. Mario

  • Erika

My fave game has to be Ice Hockey for NES. I learned the basics from an 8-bit system that still listed the Soviet Union as a legitimate nation.

    • Tyler Stanton

I freaking LOVED ice hockey on NES.were you skinny guys or fat guys?tyler stanton

  • amy

    mario kart!

  • http://thetravelingschuhs.blogspot.com Trevor

I've still never forgiven my parents for buying the original Nintendo when all my friends just got the new 64. We had a "Christian" game called We Three Kings…awesome, right? But my favorite was still the original Track and Field.

  • Jody Ferrell

I never had a NES. I had a Sega Genesis. Favorite game: Joe Montana Football. On kickoffs I had to purposely get tackled because the Defense couldn't stop me, they could only hope to contain me.

The old hockey game where you could create your lineup from three player-types: skinny-fast guy; moderately fast medium sized guy; or heavy-hitting slow fat guy.

Legend of Zelda. Clearly the best ever.

  • http://www.youredoingitright.com dustyken

If we're talking original NES, then I'd have to say, Zelda 2.

  • http://www.borderlinefunny.com evdaddy

I'm jealous about your new Mac purchase. I expect a complete review the next time we meet, which should be about March 2012.

Goldeneye and Mario Cart are the two best Nintendo 64 games.

Dr. Mario! (set to the easiest level).

  • Ricky Salinas

    Metroid, 'nuf said!

  • http://evanforester.com Evan

Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine is the greatest, but I may be biased because I am unbeatable in that game.

  • http://Jones144.blogspot.com Dusty

    The original legend of Zelda

Donky Kong classic Nintendo. Just Dance wii

Picking a favorite Nintendo games sort of feels like picking a favorite child. I really loved Super Mario Bros 1, 2, 3. 3 was probably my fav.

  • Donna

    Star Wars is my favorite

  • Todd Weiden

Kid Icarus – have to love the eggplant men…..BOOM.

  • jla6102

Without a doubt it has to be Excitebike.

  • http://www.phillip320.com Phil

I think my fave Nintendo game (I'm assuming you meant NES) had to be Mike Tyson's Punch Out. That was an incredible game!

  • M!ke McGinnis

Mario Kart Wii. Bullet Bill from last to 1st on last lap.
